The Danish implementation of CRD VI’s rules on third country bank branches

Background

The sixth amendment to the EU Capital Requirements Directive (CRD VI) was published in the Official Journal on 19 June 2024. CRD VI introduces significant changes to market access for institutions domiciled in countries outside the EU/EEA area. These include the harmonisation of minimum requirements relating to the establishment of branches of third country institutions when carrying out certain credit institution activities in a member state including lending activities.

Member states will need to implement the new CRD VI provisions into national law by 11 January 2026.
