This update covers key developments in the application of competition law to the financial sector in the UK in recent months. In this issue, we focus in particular on the landmark decision of the Competition Appeal Tribunal in the Mastercard and Visa Merchant Interchange Fee umbrella proceedings and the review of the collective action regime. This update also provides an overview of the government’s policy initiatives with respect to competition in the financial sector proceedings, as well as the Competition and Markets Authority’s and Financial Conduct Authority’s findings in the insurance sector.
